Imperial has three faculties: Engineering, Natural Sciences and Medicine; the Imperial College Business School and the Centre for Co-Curricular Studies. The main campus is located in South Kensington. The university is a major biomedical research centre and formed the first academic health science centre in the United Kingdom. Imperial is a member of the Russell Group, G5, Association of Commonwealth Universities, League of European Research Universities, and the "Golden Triangle" of British universities.

Library & IT facilities
7 departmental and 5 medical campus libraries for research material and local services; central library for course books, electronic and interdisciplinary material, also includes Science Museum Library. 1+ million volumes, 16,000 print and electronic periodical titles; 2350 seats (incl PC clusters). Annual expenditure on information provision, £355 per (FTE) student. Separate IT support service, high speed and wireless network access to on-site and off-site resources. Workstations in every department offer wide range of application programs with further general workstation access provided in the central library. Help desk and additional support via specialist IT staff.
Student Facilities
- The Central Library at the South Kensington campus houses a large proportion of the taught course materials and offers extensive study space.

- More than 3,400 PCs are available for student use in libraries and departmental areas.
- Imperial College Union has over 340 clubs and societies, amongst the highest number in the UK.
- Union venues play host to club nights, comedy nights, cinema and other entertainments regularly throughout term.
- Union facilities include four bars and two nightclubs, a shop, a newsagent, a vast representation network and much, much more.
- Imperial College Union's South Kensington bars and nightclubs have recently undergone a radical refurbishment making them the best venues on campus and some of the best student social spaces in London.

- Other facilities include: mountain hut in Snowdonia national park, boathouse at Putney and sports grounds at Harlington and Teddington (football, rugby, lacrosse, cricket, tennis and netball).
- There is no timetabled teaching on Wednesday afternoons, giving everyone the chance to take part in a wide range of activity.
